How to Add Your Quiz to a Course

Creating your first quiz – check.

Adding sections and questions to it – check.

The next step, is to make your quiz visible to your students when they access your course.

For that, you will have to add your quiz to your course on CoachRack or MemberFactory, in three easy steps:

STEP 1 Select Application
STEP 2 Select Course and Lesson
STEP 3 Review on Frontend

Only once you add a quiz to a particular lesson in your course, will your students be able to view it there and access it. It’s up to you to decide what lesson your quiz will be visible on.

Now, we know what you must be thinking – “Is adding a quiz only limited to lessons? Can’t I assign a quiz to the entire course?”.

Why, of course, you can! But, there’s a catch, and it sounds more like a hack. So, pay attention…

After you’ve added content to your course in CoachRack or MemberFactory, add a dummy lesson and call it “Quiz”, “Test”, “Final Exam”, or whatever else you want. Then, assign your quiz to that lesson. Since it’ll be the final “lesson” of the course, your students will reach it only after they’ve studied the entire curriculum, and that dummy lesson can act as the ultimate test.

Now, where were we?

Ah, yes. How to add a quiz to a lesson in your course. Let’s get on it, shall we?

Step 1: Select Application

Whether you’re a newbie who has created just one course, or are a black belt in manufacturing courses one after another, the first step is to select the application you wish to add your quiz on – MemberFactory or CoachRack.

Just so you know… The process of adding a quiz to a lesson is similar in CoachRack and MemberFactory. All you have to do is choose the relevant app at the time of assigning the quiz.

For the purpose of this tutorial, we’ll show you how to add your quiz to a lesson in CoachRack.

For ease of understanding, we’ve created a test course with test lessons on US History on CoachRack. And this, is where our quiz on Modern American History will go.

So, let’s plunge into the process!

Select Testnia from the Apps Dashboard and click on Access.

Next, you’ll see the Quiz List, among which is the latest one we created, “Quiz – Modern American History”. This is the one we’re going to be assigning to a lesson.

Click on Quiz Mapping towards the top right corner.

The next screen that follows comprises of a drop down on the left, from where, you will have to select the app – MemberFactory or CoachRack. This is how it looks:

App selected. Time for step 2.

Step 2: Select Course and Lesson

Once you’ve selected CoachRack from the drop down, all the courses that you’ve created in the app will be displayed here. If, on the other hand, you’ve just created one, only that course will be visible in this drop down (duh!).

As you can see in the screen below, our talented developers have created one too many test courses over the years for the betterment of CoachRack, and we don’t have the heart to delete them yet.

So, just ignore those, and bring your focus to US History.

As is clear in the screen above, clicking on our US History course will instantly display all the lessons under the course on the screen next to the list. All you need to do now is, select the quiz from the drop down, and enable the toggles alongside.

Lesson: This column displays a list of all the lessons in the course.

Quiz: This column shows a drop down menu of all the quizzes you’ve created in Testnia. Select the quiz that you want to add to that particular lesson simply by clicking on its name.

Listen up… Is Mandatory and Can Retake toggles can be enabled only when you’ve selected the quiz. Otherwise, they stay disabled.

So, anyway, we selected Quiz – Modern American History for Lesson 1 from its respective drop-down menu and enabled both the toggles. This is how the screen looks now.

Is Mandatory: This means that the kid that’s taking your course won’t pass or fail or be awarded with any laurels unless he or she takes this quiz.

Can Retake: Can the student take the quiz more than once? You get to decide that! Slide right on this screen, and you’ll be able to select from multiple retakes of the quiz (shown in the screenshot below). Or, you can leave that setting alone to “Unlimited” by default.

That’s it! That’s all it takes to add your quiz to a lesson in you course. Pretty damn easy, yeah?

Step 3: Review on Frontend

And now, the moment we’ve all been waiting for –

“How will it look on my course to my students?”

Once a student clicks on your course on their dashboard and selects Lesson 1 (to which we added our quiz in this case), they will see this quiz header. They will just need to click on the green Start Quiz button, and get on with it.

All the quiz content that we added back in the How to Add Sections and Questions tutorial will be visible now.

Let’s see what else the student sees once they hit Start Quiz and proceed to take the quiz:

Answer submitted, and off we were to Part II of the quiz.

Student hits Submit after answering all questions. System sends the responses to you. Student gets redirected to Lesson 1, only this time, the “Start Quiz” button is replaced by a disabled “Result” button.

“Disabled… but why? I enabled automatic scoring for my quiz.”
Easy there, tiger! Allow us to jog your memory. This quiz contains a paragraph question, which you will first have to review, and then, manually pass or fail the student. So, until and unless you do that, the Result button would stay disabled for the student. Comprende?

That’s all, folks! If you’ve got any questions regarding quiz mapping, contact support and our awesome experts will sort it out for you.
